Class Discussion - Project

I also like the time when all my classmates come together in groups and discussion on certain topic, either assigned by the teacher or out of our own curiosity. This time we discussion about our project in class. The class time was originally designed for us to put all our presentation materials together into one piece. Also, it was the first time that I saw all my teammates' works, including their own parts of presentation and writing. I was a bit shocked when I saw their works, because not only they done a awesome job, but also they were being very cooperative and supportive, which was the very crucial element for us to have a perfect presentation. Later, we started our discussion. Let me mention this first, we were doing a research project on Asperger syndrome. Mainly, we will each read a part from a book called Asperger's from the inside out and produce a complete reading report on the book. Each of us were responsible for presenting our own reading section. Also, the project consists other two parts, famous people with Asperger syndrome and foundation who helps people with such disorder. That day, we were discussing how we were going to present it and how we will organize our slides, and I really enjoyed our group discussion on the project
.
Also, I like to discuss with all my class. I remembered when we just came back form cycling around Taiwan, our teacher asked us to share the feeling and experience that we had throughout the trip. I was thrilled, because I really wanted to talk and share about the trip. I really appreciate the chance for me to go on stage and talk about what I learned and found from the trip, and I liked to listen from others about what they had on the trip, because it makes me feel like we are friends who chat in their spare time.

My favorite author - Anne Rice

Anne Rice was born as Howard Allen O’Brien on October 4, 1941. She chose the name “Anne” when she entered her first grade at St. Alphonsus Grammar School, and she later attended Richardson High School and graduated in 1959. She then attended the Texas Woman’s University in Denton and later transferred to North Texas State College. After she finished her studies, she married Stan Rice, a atheist poet who became a professor of literature and poetry in San Francisco. Later she finished writing her first book, Interview With The Vampire(1978) which made her famous, she gave birth to her son Christopher Rice who is now a famous gay murder-thriller writer
Anne has now written more than 28 books, five of whichwere written under the pseudonyms A.N. Roquelaire and Anne Rampling. The  first 21 of her books had the subject from vampires, ghosts, castrato singers, to colored slaves. However, after she renounced atheism in 1998, and her Catholic marriage in 2002 with her still-atheist husband who also died on the same year because of brain cancer, she concluded her famous 10-part Vampire Chronicles by releasing Blood Canticle(2002) and vowed to “only write for the Lord”. With that firm conviction to never again write about the occult and the outcasts, she released the first book of her trilogy on the life of Jesus Christ, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, on 2005. She then released the second part of the said trilogy which was entitled Christ the Lord: The Road To Cana a few years ago. Her recent book is entitled Angel Time from the Songs of the Seraphim series. It is a murder-thriller type wherein an angel gave a murderer a chance to save his soul.

My favorite book - Holes

Books can satisfy reader’s desire of the words, but they can also teach us about life, friendship, and even death. The books can provide us knowledge, no matter they are fiction or not. For example, “Holes” is my favorite book, and it provides us human nature and life principle.
Holes, by Louis Sachar, the book is a fiction book, but with a completely different story. In Sachar's Holes, the boys show their optimistic and their unbreakable friendship. Although in a abominable situation, they still willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. The book also talks about the society forbids the love between different colors, it paints the book with a little racist. Between love in the past and friendship in present of the book, it takes the book into a whole new level by showing and teaching the reader the mightiness of love and friendship. And that is why I love this book.

12 day away, AWESOME

Our school has organized a bike trip for 12 days during class time, and I really had learnt a lot during this trip. People might say "Riding bicycle for 12 days, piece of cake", but actually they are wrong. This 12 days were a challenge for both our mind and body. We felt comfortable and happy for the first few days, but as the time of sitting on our bicycle's seat went on, the time started to slow down, and we found out the trip was really an ordeal for us.
From this trip, I found out the importance of friendship, and I made some really good friends. This trip was not about whether you can ride fast or not. It is about whether if you can help others when you have the extra strength. Not only you will be satisfied if you help, you can also lessen the distance between your friends. Take me for example. I was the class leader of our class. Originally, our class was very scattered. Everyone just minds their own business. But after I devoted myself to our class and tried to help my classmates in all aspects of their need, I found out the attitude of them changed. They started to view me as a friend instead of a superior power, and I am really happy about that, and it makes easier for me to lead my class, and  I now view my class with a new perspective. I know this class may not be the perfect class in others' eyes, but I am proud of it and love it, because it is "my class".

Macbeth Finished

It has been a lazy week for me and for all the 10th graders, I guess. It is mainly becuse of the cycling around Taiwan that is happening next week. Although we are going to have so much fun next week, but we still need to get some work done this week.
We had a pretty intense and hard quiz on Macbeth Act 1, 2, and 3. The test was so hard that my friends and I were shockd by it. The question sheet was only a single A4 paper with 10 short questions, but the answer that I handed in was  about 3 pages of A4 paper. I was surprised that there can be so many profound and challenging questions come out from a easy and abbreviated version of Macbeth.
Although the quiz was such a frustration to me, but I found out Macbeth is really a interesting book to read. Therefore, I finished the entire book in my spare time at dorm. It is really a great book. The plot of the book just keep luring me to read it furthermore. It may take a while for me to fully understand this book, but still I am glad that I finally finished it.

Article about Asperger syndrome

After reading the article “Child with Asperger syndrome often live in fear of teasing, bullying”, there are two thoughts come to my mind. The first one is about our project of Asperger syndrome. The second on is a connection of this article to my real-life experience with a friend who also has Asperger syndrome.
Since our English project for this term is to research on Asperager syndrome, I found out that this article about the issues of children who are afflicted with Asperger syndrome interesting. Before I read the article, Asperger syndrome, to me, is merely one type of autism, but I have a deeper or a general of what Asperger syndrome is. Also, the article concerns about how the society should do to help the children. I believe that lots of money will be needed for those who suffers from Asperger syndrome. Therefore, I think government should help the children either by financial aids or free special educations. And according to the estimate in the article that 1 in 166 children will have such problem, the problem will need a immediate solution, so the suffering of both the child and the parents can be alleviated.
The article also reminds me about one of my friends in junior high school. He has Asperger syndrome, therefore he always interrupt classes in inappropriate timing. He did not go to any special educational center or organization, but instead he came to our school. Classmates were first curious about why he acting so weird, and when they found out he was suffered with mental disability, people start to tease him and even bully him. The kid had no idea about what was going on, and his syndrome started to deteriorate. Eventually, he started to hurt himself by cutting his wrist. Although I was not the one who teases him, but I felt sorry for him that I did not try to help him at the time, even till today, I still feel guilty when I think about him. People who suffered from Asperger syndrome really need the help of ours, and we should not tease or even discriminate them because of their misfortune. People were all born equal. Even though they are different from, but instead of step aside, what we really need to do is to help them and alleviate their suffering.

Things to say about my HW this week

This is the 7th week of our second semester. Although this is not a busy week because all the exams and works that happened in the last week, but still we have some work this week. I read a article called "One Hundred Years of Multitude." You may think the title of the article is quiet familiar, because it is a allusion of the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. The article mainly talks about different groups of people, like Asian and Slavs. This makes me think about the world that we live in. It the world that have tons of different cultures, races, and countries. In the past, people often time united due to a common races and nationalism, and they fight with the other groups of people because they wanted to prove their superiority. But now, people cooperate internationally, disregard their country and nationality. I found it interesting because I was wondering what is the force that cause people to turn fighting into collaboration. Is it the world-wide economy? Or because they are tired about war and fighting?
