Warning Addictive --> ASEAN Plus summit

In this grading period, there was a week that few of my classmate and I were not in Taiwan. We were in Singapore attending a simulated ASEAN Plus summit which was held by Duman High School.  It was like Model United Nation(MUN). There were 6 different councils in the conferecne. Every team will assign on people to be the delegate of certain country to attend  one of the council. In each council, delegates will discuss on various global issues.
When I was there, I was assigned to the press corp council. Unfortunately, that was the only council that did not need to speak in the council, because we were in charged with the reports that we needed to hand in at the end of each day. The report mainly recorded what happened in the council that you were assigned to (not the press corp council but the other one). So, I could only sit on the side, watch the delegates discussed eagerly in the conference, and put my head down focusing on writing on my report. The feeling was like you wanted something and that thing was right in front you, but you still cannot get it.
Although I did not get the chance to speak in the conference, but I made a lot of friends in Singapore. There were people coming from different countries to join the conference. Not only I can learn about their countries, but also I got to listen to their accents and it was really hard for me to get what were they talking about. After this trip to Singapore, I was like addicted to MUN and this kind of conference, because when I was backed, the first thing I did was checking when is the nearest MUN conference going to be held. I am really looking forward to the next time of my MUN experience.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Review Part VI

In the forth quarter of the book, it talked about the journey of Christopher's escape to London find his mother. Because I had not finished the book yet. Therefore, I can only share my feeling and thoughts about this quarter of the book.
First at all, I found Christopher's logic was really interesting. He thought his father may kill him, because his father told him a big lie and killed a dog. I wanted to asked Christopher, if I can, that did he realize that it is his father but not some random strangers? It was true that his father was guilty with the lie-telling and dog-killing, but so did his mother who left the family and had an affair with others. So since Mother was guilty too, why Christopher wanted to go and find his mother but no his teacher or even Ms. Alexander? And father was not killed him for sure because they were father and son. Killing an animal was a total different matter compared to killing people. Maybe it was because Christopher thought too "logical" that he forgot add in the factor of relationship, which I found contradicting to his personality. But in conclusion, I really enjoyed Christopher's escape. It was fun to read how he tried to make himself comfortable in the journey and how he escaped arrest by some coincidents. And that was why I found out this book interesting and enjoyed reading it.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Review Part III

In the third quarter of the book, there was a sharp turn of plot. Originally, everyone thought Christopher's mother was the only one who made mistake and had an affair, but actually it was not. Father started to confessed after Christopher read the letters and found out Mother was not dead. First, Father had told a big lie to Christopher. Second, he confessed that he was the one who killed Wellington because he had a crush on Mrs. Shears, but he thought she cared the dog more than himself. So, after a fight, Father left Mrs. Shears house and saw the dog. Therefore, he killed the dog due to his anger. Combined with these two reasons, Christopher thought Father was not trust-worthy anymore and may wanted to kill him. Christopher started of his journey of escaping from Father, but on the other hand, Father anxiously wanted to find Christopher.
After finishing this quarter of the book, I thought the book became more realistic. There is always a cause and an effect. Christopher caused Mother to leave, and Mother left caused Father had a crush on Mrs. Shears, who had been really considerate after Mother left. Also, I started to think about marriage. Marriage originally was meant to be forever and sweet. But since there is no perfect person, so there is no perfect marriage. Maybe it is a narrow-minded opinion, but I though in some way it makes sense, and it also explains the high divorce rate in the world. Nonetheless, I think that is why people are different. Even though the result maybe devastating, but still people enjoy doing it.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Review Part II

In the second quarter of the book, author described Christopher's investigation of the death of Wellington. During Christopher's investigation, it showed how Christopher made things to be logical and how Christopher had problem communicating with others. Most importantly, in this quarter of the book, Christopher discovered the letters that were sent by his mother, which he thought who had dead of a heart attack. He was confused about the letters at first, because it did not make sense for him. If mother had already dead, how can she send any letter to Christopher? and why was it from London?
I found out this quarter of the book, author started to build up the pace of the story. I can feel the story begin to become more and more intense, and I really enjoyed following up the story. Also, when I read the part that Christopher started to read a bunch of his mother's letter, my first impression was "Wow! that's a lot of pages." But after calming down myself, I started to realized the love of Christopher's mother and the difference that she had experienced. I felt sympathy for her even though she had affair with others and abandoned Christopher. It is not a perfect world, and so are the people. There is no such a person that is morally perfect. Everyone has emotion, and everyone makes mistakes. So, in my opinion, it was not 100% Christopher's mother's fault, but still I felt sorry for Christopher.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Review Part I

After weeks of reading of the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, I would like to share my thoughts and opinions about this book with you, and I will separate it into four parts. In each part, I will talk about the different quarter of the book and my reflection. Also, after reading this book, I highly recommend this book to those who has not read it before. I think you will find this book sophisticated, attractive, and interesting.
In the first quarter of the book, the author clearly illustrated Christopher's uniqueness and his difficulty with the society. The story began with Christopher killed the dog, Wellington, of his neighbor, Mrs. Shears. Christopher's resistance of police investigation got him under arrested and given warning. Then Christopher was determined to find out who killed the dog despite it was banned by his father.
I found the first quarter of the book interesting. It was like watching a show, but in the show, you can see what the actor is thinking about.I started to realize how different a person with Asperger syndrome can act compare to normals. What fascinated me the most was how Christopher determined a goo day or not. In the book, he defined a good day if he was 4 red cars in a row, and 5 red cars in a row mean "super good day", which it will be a day for him to take risk. On the other hand, he defined a bad day if he was 4 yellow cars in a row and 5 for a "super bad day". In a super bad day, he will isolate himself. He will not talk to any one. Moreover, he said if he had two "super bad day" for two days, he can close his eyes in the next day on his way to school. It made me wonder whether there were so many red or yellow cars that he can see "in a row", which I thought it will be a interesting topic to discuss. Nonetheless, I really admired Christopher of his way of think. It was unique and outside the box. People may say it was because he had mental disorder, but I said it was observant and creative.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

Sorry I forgot to put a post in the previous week, because I was having a triathlon competition in the weekend. It was really fun to enjoy the water, air, and sunshine with my triathlon teammates in Hualien. Although I did not feel satisfied with my time in this competition, but it made me realized that I did not train myself enough. Therefore, I will try my best next time, and the next game will be on 18th June, 2011.

This is the first time that I began to read the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. My first impression of the book was that this book was a really easy book to read, because it did not have many difficult vocabularies and the idea was easy to figure out for me. So, I really enjoyed to read this book, and I finished the first quarter of the book very soon. I felt eased because the narrator, Christopher, is close to our age, and I was fascinated by the way he thinks. He is a straight-forward boy who has a different definition for ordinary things compare to normal people. For example, people may think it will be a good day if they woke up and found the weather is nice and clear. Unlike normal people, Christopher defines it is a good if he saw 4 or more red cars in a row. I loved the way he thinks outside the box.
During our class time, our teacher also discussed a inherited problem with us. "Will you leave any of your wealth to your children? and will you divide your wealth equally to them?" asked my teacher. I found the the question interesting because we had a different point of view between western and eastern culture. Chinese likes to leave their wealth to their decedents, but westerners do not. For me, I will spend all my money on investing my children. I will make sure they have the ability to live on their own before I leave them. Therefore, I will not leave any of my money to them, because I want them to realize that they will not have any inheritance so that they can be lazy. I want to provide them a fishing pole and teach them how to fish but not feed them with the fish that I caught.

Class Discussion - Project

I also like the time when all my classmates come together in groups and discussion on certain topic, either assigned by the teacher or out of our own curiosity. This time we discussion about our project in class. The class time was originally designed for us to put all our presentation materials together into one piece. Also, it was the first time that I saw all my teammates' works, including their own parts of presentation and writing. I was a bit shocked when I saw their works, because not only they done a awesome job, but also they were being very cooperative and supportive, which was the very crucial element for us to have a perfect presentation. Later, we started our discussion. Let me mention this first, we were doing a research project on Asperger syndrome. Mainly, we will each read a part from a book called Asperger's from the inside out and produce a complete reading report on the book. Each of us were responsible for presenting our own reading section. Also, the project consists other two parts, famous people with Asperger syndrome and foundation who helps people with such disorder. That day, we were discussing how we were going to present it and how we will organize our slides, and I really enjoyed our group discussion on the project
.
Also, I like to discuss with all my class. I remembered when we just came back form cycling around Taiwan, our teacher asked us to share the feeling and experience that we had throughout the trip. I was thrilled, because I really wanted to talk and share about the trip. I really appreciate the chance for me to go on stage and talk about what I learned and found from the trip, and I liked to listen from others about what they had on the trip, because it makes me feel like we are friends who chat in their spare time.

My favorite author - Anne Rice

Anne Rice was born as Howard Allen O’Brien on October 4, 1941. She chose the name “Anne” when she entered her first grade at St. Alphonsus Grammar School, and she later attended Richardson High School and graduated in 1959. She then attended the Texas Woman’s University in Denton and later transferred to North Texas State College. After she finished her studies, she married Stan Rice, a atheist poet who became a professor of literature and poetry in San Francisco. Later she finished writing her first book, Interview With The Vampire(1978) which made her famous, she gave birth to her son Christopher Rice who is now a famous gay murder-thriller writer
Anne has now written more than 28 books, five of whichwere written under the pseudonyms A.N. Roquelaire and Anne Rampling. The  first 21 of her books had the subject from vampires, ghosts, castrato singers, to colored slaves. However, after she renounced atheism in 1998, and her Catholic marriage in 2002 with her still-atheist husband who also died on the same year because of brain cancer, she concluded her famous 10-part Vampire Chronicles by releasing Blood Canticle(2002) and vowed to “only write for the Lord”. With that firm conviction to never again write about the occult and the outcasts, she released the first book of her trilogy on the life of Jesus Christ, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, on 2005. She then released the second part of the said trilogy which was entitled Christ the Lord: The Road To Cana a few years ago. Her recent book is entitled Angel Time from the Songs of the Seraphim series. It is a murder-thriller type wherein an angel gave a murderer a chance to save his soul.

My favorite book - Holes

Books can satisfy reader’s desire of the words, but they can also teach us about life, friendship, and even death. The books can provide us knowledge, no matter they are fiction or not. For example, “Holes” is my favorite book, and it provides us human nature and life principle.
Holes, by Louis Sachar, the book is a fiction book, but with a completely different story. In Sachar's Holes, the boys show their optimistic and their unbreakable friendship. Although in a abominable situation, they still willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. The book also talks about the society forbids the love between different colors, it paints the book with a little racist. Between love in the past and friendship in present of the book, it takes the book into a whole new level by showing and teaching the reader the mightiness of love and friendship. And that is why I love this book.

12 day away, AWESOME

Our school has organized a bike trip for 12 days during class time, and I really had learnt a lot during this trip. People might say "Riding bicycle for 12 days, piece of cake", but actually they are wrong. This 12 days were a challenge for both our mind and body. We felt comfortable and happy for the first few days, but as the time of sitting on our bicycle's seat went on, the time started to slow down, and we found out the trip was really an ordeal for us.
From this trip, I found out the importance of friendship, and I made some really good friends. This trip was not about whether you can ride fast or not. It is about whether if you can help others when you have the extra strength. Not only you will be satisfied if you help, you can also lessen the distance between your friends. Take me for example. I was the class leader of our class. Originally, our class was very scattered. Everyone just minds their own business. But after I devoted myself to our class and tried to help my classmates in all aspects of their need, I found out the attitude of them changed. They started to view me as a friend instead of a superior power, and I am really happy about that, and it makes easier for me to lead my class, and  I now view my class with a new perspective. I know this class may not be the perfect class in others' eyes, but I am proud of it and love it, because it is "my class".

Macbeth Finished

It has been a lazy week for me and for all the 10th graders, I guess. It is mainly becuse of the cycling around Taiwan that is happening next week. Although we are going to have so much fun next week, but we still need to get some work done this week.
We had a pretty intense and hard quiz on Macbeth Act 1, 2, and 3. The test was so hard that my friends and I were shockd by it. The question sheet was only a single A4 paper with 10 short questions, but the answer that I handed in was  about 3 pages of A4 paper. I was surprised that there can be so many profound and challenging questions come out from a easy and abbreviated version of Macbeth.
Although the quiz was such a frustration to me, but I found out Macbeth is really a interesting book to read. Therefore, I finished the entire book in my spare time at dorm. It is really a great book. The plot of the book just keep luring me to read it furthermore. It may take a while for me to fully understand this book, but still I am glad that I finally finished it.

Article about Asperger syndrome

After reading the article “Child with Asperger syndrome often live in fear of teasing, bullying”, there are two thoughts come to my mind. The first one is about our project of Asperger syndrome. The second on is a connection of this article to my real-life experience with a friend who also has Asperger syndrome.
Since our English project for this term is to research on Asperager syndrome, I found out that this article about the issues of children who are afflicted with Asperger syndrome interesting. Before I read the article, Asperger syndrome, to me, is merely one type of autism, but I have a deeper or a general of what Asperger syndrome is. Also, the article concerns about how the society should do to help the children. I believe that lots of money will be needed for those who suffers from Asperger syndrome. Therefore, I think government should help the children either by financial aids or free special educations. And according to the estimate in the article that 1 in 166 children will have such problem, the problem will need a immediate solution, so the suffering of both the child and the parents can be alleviated.
The article also reminds me about one of my friends in junior high school. He has Asperger syndrome, therefore he always interrupt classes in inappropriate timing. He did not go to any special educational center or organization, but instead he came to our school. Classmates were first curious about why he acting so weird, and when they found out he was suffered with mental disability, people start to tease him and even bully him. The kid had no idea about what was going on, and his syndrome started to deteriorate. Eventually, he started to hurt himself by cutting his wrist. Although I was not the one who teases him, but I felt sorry for him that I did not try to help him at the time, even till today, I still feel guilty when I think about him. People who suffered from Asperger syndrome really need the help of ours, and we should not tease or even discriminate them because of their misfortune. People were all born equal. Even though they are different from, but instead of step aside, what we really need to do is to help them and alleviate their suffering.

Things to say about my HW this week

This is the 7th week of our second semester. Although this is not a busy week because all the exams and works that happened in the last week, but still we have some work this week. I read a article called "One Hundred Years of Multitude." You may think the title of the article is quiet familiar, because it is a allusion of the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. The article mainly talks about different groups of people, like Asian and Slavs. This makes me think about the world that we live in. It the world that have tons of different cultures, races, and countries. In the past, people often time united due to a common races and nationalism, and they fight with the other groups of people because they wanted to prove their superiority. But now, people cooperate internationally, disregard their country and nationality. I found it interesting because I was wondering what is the force that cause people to turn fighting into collaboration. Is it the world-wide economy? Or because they are tired about war and fighting?
